A third mandate for Viviane Michel, president of Quebec Native Women
Kahnawake, December 6, 2016 – On December 2nd, 3rd and 4th, members of the Quebec Native Women’s association (QNW) came together for the 43rd Annual Gathering of Members in Laval. On Saturday, December 3rd, each nation’s delegates elected Viviane Michel, by acclamation, to the position of president for a third two-year term.
‘’ I do this work with my heart; I do it because I have a thirst for making us known, a thirst for recognition! This thirst drives me forward and each day, compels me to work passionately for our women, ‘’ says QNW’s president, Viviane Michel.
At QNW’s Annual Gathering of Members, a clear and unanimous message was issued by the members: they want an Independent Provincial Judicial Inquiry. The Quebec government’s lack of action, and the waiting-game they have initiated are unacceptable. ‘’ For women who have denounced and for those who do not yet dare to do so, we want this inquiry and we will get it. We will work tirelessly to ensure that Indigenous women today, and the women of our future generations will achieve justice,’’ declares QNW’s President, Viviane Michel.
The 43rd Annual Gathering of Members was a success. 2017 promises to bear many challenges, but it is with both the trust and recognition of the organization’s members that QNW President, Viviane Michel intends to lead the organization towards these new horizons.
