QNW launches a petition against discrimination in the Indian Act
Montreal, February 16th, 2019 – Quebec Native Women (QNW) launches a petition to call on government to end discrimination in the Indian Act, which persists despite Bill C-31, Bill C-3 and Bill S-3, and despite the fact that the federal government has committed to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. QNW calls for the government’s inaction to stop.
“QNW is tired to be consulted by the government and always having go repeat the same thing without any change actually happening: the Indian act is an archaic, patriarchal and assimilationist law!” – Viviane Michel, president of QNW
This pétition launched only a few days ago has already collected over 800 signatures from people all over Canada. This shows how important and motivating this issue is.
